Overview
This page consolidates every official Riftbound rules document into one location. Whether you need to check a card's legality, understand how abilities resolve on the stack, or prep for a Regional Qualifier, start here.
New to Riftbound? This page is designed as a reference for players who already know the basics. If you're learning the game for the first time, head to the How to Play page first — then come back here when you need the fine print.
Constructed Format Legality
All sets currently produced for Riftbound are legal in sanctioned Constructed play, both at local game-store events and at larger tournament circuits. A Standard Constructed rotation is planned to begin in 2028, at which point older sets will cycle out of the primary format.
Banned Cards & Battlefields
Effective March 31, 2026, the following cards and battlefields are banned in sanctioned Constructed tournaments:
Cards
- Called Shot
- Draven, Vanquisher
- Fight or Flight
- Scrapheap
Battlefields
- Dreaming Tree
- Obelisk of Power
- Reaver's Row
For the full rationale behind these bans, see the official announcement: Announcing Riftbound's First Bans.
Core Rules
The Core Rules document is the mechanical backbone of Riftbound. It covers deckbuilding constraints, the turn structure, timing windows, card and ability resolution, effect ordering, and every other rule that governs game flow.

Tournament Rules
The Tournament Rules define the structure and policies for official Riftbound organized play. This document covers event formats, deckbuilding guidelines specific to tournament play, floor rules, and guidance for judges and tournament organizers on adjudicating disputes.

Patch Notes
Patch Note articles break down rules updates, clarify common interactions, and explain changes introduced alongside new releases. If a ruling feels ambiguous, these are the first place to check.
Errata
When a new set releases, the rules team may issue errata — official updates to the printed rules text on existing cards. These changes take effect immediately and supersede what's printed on the physical card.
